We have just returned from two fabulous weeks in paradise, our ninth trip to Bali. We stayed in Kuta where things seem almost back to normal.
We visited Sanur and were quite amazed/annoyed at the aggression shown by the beach market stallholders. We expect and enjoy good natured hassling but I literally had to push my way out of one stall – even after making an unwanted purchase. Their attitude was most unwelcome and made us cut our shopping trip short.
My second beef concerns the sleazy types who sidle up to you and mutter 'Hashish boss? Marijuana?' This was particularly prevalent after dark in the Kuta Square area.
We somehow need to get the message through to these people that their antics can only harm the full re-establishment of the tourist industry.
