Went May 2003 and found it mildly irritating to be followed around. We went right to Tootsie's and agreed to buy a few things in another store afterward. Mostly just to shut them up as they were so persistent. Turned out that a few purchases (which was all they asked for) was not enough and they kept on and on asking for more, which just pissed us off and we left.
I went back in November 2003 and it was a horrid experience. They were agressive, trying to physically drag us to their stalls and then getting nasty when we refused. One girl cornered me on the way in and was persistent but nice about it, so I purchased my gear from her (spending about $60 or $70 there). She did press for extra purchases, but it was in a light hearted way and when I made it clear that no was finally no she accepted it. The others on the way out were awful, abusing me for spending all my money in one shop etc. If they hadn't been so awful on the way in, I might have spread my money around a bit more!
They certainly don't do themselves any favours, and I definitely will not be going back to Sanur for any shopping on future trips.
