Scooters In Bali

I'm going to be in Bali for 10 night as from the 28th of aug.
A friend told me to hire a Scooter for the whole ten/eleven days
he said its the best way to get around. But i need a international
licence (not a problem) and if the police stops me i give them alittle $$?? If anyone can tell me if this is worth it it would be great. I do want to travel around the island and i think a scooter would be awsome...

Oh and if any1 wants to catch up for a drink we will be there as from the 28th of Aug staying in Kuta...
