Last year went on the back of a local guy's motorbike, Candi Dasa to Padang Bai and back. We were both wearing helmets [but I would have hated to have put mine through a crash test!]
On the way back to CD, there was a big road block up ahead, with lots of bikes being pulled over. We were waved through, with mutual smiles between Ben and the cops. I asked Ben what it was all about and he told me they were pulling people over for not wearing helmets, not uncommon in that area.
I asked him what the "donation" would have been. He told me 20000 for him, maybe 100000 for me.
