As you will know if you have any type of motor vehicle, accident in Bali you as a Westerner are classed as being in the wrong as you are in their country.
I have been in a car driving past a most horrific accident between 3 motorbikes & a rubbish truck, where a Mother was laying, her skull cracked & open, lying on top of her 2 young children, whom were not moving.
Me being a Mother & also a very caring person, wanted to get out & atleast see if these young children were alive, but there were literally 30 or 40 persons standing around just looking, I was told by my husband, not to look, or get out to help, as if then the children were dead or died it would be blamed on me!
So we drove on, I was crying & quite distressed for days because of this.
I believe the staff would have had these same fears, don't do anything, as anything that goes wrong will be blamed on them...
I am still not entirely convinced all this story makes sense or is above board.... But this may help as to why they stood around!
