Just returned from a fantastic 10 day honeymoon in Bali. Because of the glowing recommendations on this forum about Wayan Purya, we decided to hire him as a driver for 4 days. I can recommend him without reservation - he really was the difference in making our experience in Bali extraordinary. While there may be other drivers that speak better English, you will not find one that will work harder to make you trip more meaninful or enjoyable. It is the little things (okay, maybe not so little) that he did for us that I remember most – getting us front row seats for the Legong Dance performance at the Gunung Sari Peliatan peformance near Ubud (highly recommended – every Saturday night at 7:30PM), moving a table with a waiter at a restaurant in Kintamani so that we could get the best views during lunch, taking us through backroads to an entrance to Besakih (Mother Temple) that is usually reserved for native Balinese visitors that allowed us to bypass the gauntlet of souvenir shops that line the usual entrance to the temple. We were even invited to his home one evening and met his lovely wife (who is an English teacher at the local high school) and his four children.

Wayan is a deeply religious and philosophical man and we had many interesting conversations. He arranged for a special prayer ceremony for us at Besakih to provide us good luck on our marriage. I can not recommend him highly enough.
