As you stated the allowance is 50 cigarettes. If you bring back more than the limit, duty will be charged on ALL sticks (including the 50) and in 2013 the duty was 0.40197 per stick. I still found it cheaper to buy cigarettes in Bali and pay the duty when declaring the cigarettes on return home. I contacted www.customs.gov.au for some clarification. Maybe you could check for the latest duty per stick. Perhaps another Forumite will have the answer. Meanwhile I'm delighted to say I gave up smoking 😊
