I have been to Bali many times and made lots of friends while I was there. Some are Westerners and some locals. When I arrived home I noticed that none of my Western friends sent me requests for money but the local friends that I made have all at some point asked for help and have no shame in doing so. I know life is very different for the locals and we have very much compared to their very little but since when was it okay to ask for 7m RP without anybody batting an eyelid?
It got me thinking who the worst culprets are for asking for money and how good it would be to out them as I am sure a lot of them would be spinning sob stories to a lot of us about how they need money for this and that and us Aussies can be very generous people so I reckon that many people fall into the trap of sending money over to their friends not knowing that some of the people they send money to have gambling problems or are receiving money from more than one of their Aussie families. This post may get lots of backlash but I would like to know what the most common excuses are for asking for money. So far the ones I have had are for school fees, trips back to the village, a family member dying or died, that they are very sick, renovations for the house, paying for funerals and the list goes on. Does anybody have any experiences that they want to share?
