I also saw a friends post on Facebook this morning (who lives in Ubud) say that there was lots of activity behind her house. What she thought would be a quiet day was not because her dogs kept barking at all the people passing by.

I was surprised because I thought it was pretty common knowledge that everyone (locals and tourists) respect the Nyepi tradition of staying inside.

I agree it would be hard to get young children to understand the concept when they see others disrespecting it.
