My mother used to make up a kind of show bag for my girls that they could only open when they were in the air, my girls were not screamers or seat kickers but they enjoyed the treat, maybe several bags of goodies along the trip as motivation to behave and enjoy the flight.
You sound like a responsible parent I sure wish more parents thought about this more, 6+ hours is a long time for a child to sit still in a confined environment.
