I came back from Fiji once and a lady with two 6-8 year old kids sat behind us. Oh no! But she then came and spoke to us - she said that her kids were pretty energetic and that we might have some kicks, but for us to let her know as soon as it happened and she'd sort it out. Well, we did get a couple of kicks, we gave her a very pleasant heads-up and she took the kid for a bit of a walk while hubby looked after the other kid - the thing that really diffused the whole situation was that we knew up front that she was concerned about the kids being annoying and would do something if we had a problem.

Kids are kids - everyone knows how they feel on long flights but the really annoying part is if the parents appear to be ignoring it or don't care, neither of which applies in your case. Perhaps if you just let everyone in front know that they can approach you as soon as they have an issue, you'll know its happening and they will be much happier knowing you'll do something about it.
