My first JBR, although I have been accessing this forum for a few years. I have picked up some great tips from forum members over the years so thank you to you all !!! Now it's my turn to contribute. We were in Indonesia 3 -27 July.
Highlights:
Sunday dinner at Echo Beach - great food and a fun party vibe
Rambutan Hotel Lovina - beautiful Balinese setting and only a few minutes walk to the beach, and the main street in the other direction. Staff were exceptional.
Tegal Sari at Ubud- excellent accommodation and friendly staff as always.
Visit to Bumi Sehat in Ubud - an amazing organisation which provides midwifery and health services to the local community.
Visit with Intan, an orphan who lives in Pakisan , northern Bali, who is sponsored through a foundation we are associated with, who has just completed her secondary education and gained entry to university to study midwifery. The foundation will sponsor Intan for the next three years. Well done Intan!!!
This time we went to Lombok and Gili Air for the first time - amazing to snorkel with turtles off Gili Trawangan
Tekor Bali, Legian - they have rebuilt since the fire and the food is excellent as it was before
I am a quilter and bought many metres of fabrics from Sulawesi St Denpasar. Thanks to forum members for alerting me to this. Looking forward to sewing when I get home.
Nusa Lembongan - a gem to visit ,as always, - a lay back setting and like I imagine Bali was twenty years ago. We hired a golf cart to get around. Easier than a motor bike.
Snorkelling off Gili Air - lots of colorful fish fish and off Gili Trawangan we saw turtles which was amazing
Downside:
The ‘development' around Legian. It is sad to see local buildings razed for ‘development' . And this will only add to the traffic problems!!
On balance, though, Bali is still my favorite holiday destination. I'll continue to visit.
