customs taking alcohol

Hi everyone we just flew out of bali yesterday when we arrived at the airport and went through the bags went through the xray machine officers were taking open bottles of alcohol of people including me i saw them trying to take a full bottle of chivas off a older man but did'nt succeed.Just thought id warn people as i was annoyed because i know they will just sell it because alcohol will be in demand around this time of year.
