Batteries in any luggage were some time ago considered 'illegal' by the thugs at the Bali airport security on departure. Thus such batteries were removed from laptops, hand phones and tablets plus all other batteries no matter for what. Protests did not help at all.
Some of the communication devices have a built-in battery that can only be removed by professionals when the device is repaired. No problem - out came a knife and the device was forcibly broken open to satisfy the person most certainly reselling stolen batteries while pretending to handle security Bali style. Fortunately the idiots did not go for people using pacemakers while they were at it.
I did not lose only several expensive batteries and my chances to use the hand phones on arrival home but was also left with an expensive tablet, broken beyond repair.
The insurance company told me that I was not to receive any compensation as the loss was an act by the Indonesian authorities. But having explained how corrupt the Balinese (authorities) are, I eventually got everything covered.
Both international airline associations concerned by real airport security as well as the Indonesian Embassy here were contacted about the malpractices. Needless to say there was no reply from the embassy. Probably I seriouskly offended someone and stepped on sore toes but I felt that I could not turn a blind eye to the events, just because it is Bali.
