Believe me, this is just another Bali way to squeeze money out of you. I stay for 3 month stints every year. They tried it on me and i told them where to go. Correct, it is a requirement that hotels and villa's keep a register of their guests and forward to police. Once you have payed your VOA and proceeded thru immigration you are a legal visitor in Indonesia, do not let anyone tell you any different. Merry Xmas.
