It is actually your bank that is your problem not AA. Banks are suspicious of credit card transactions in Malaysia (HQ of AA).
Once I bought an AA ticket using a CitiBank credit card. Within 5 minutes, I received a phonecall from CitiBank asking if the transaction had been authorised by me.
There is no problem buying AA tickets while you are overseas. Just ring the card issuing banks before you go overseas and tell them where you are going and the time that you will be away.
