I had an experience that has left me very sad about my trip to Bali...
I went to a restaurant that I've been to a couple of times. While the service isn't amazing, the staff are friendly, it's very relaxed.
Last night I went for dinner and ordered a small bintang. The waiter brought me a large Bintang and I was very nice and said "I'm sorry, I ordered a small."
(I've had a mix up like occur before and usually I'd just take the large and be done with it, but I really didn't want a large beer...)
Anyway, the waiter shot me a dirty look and stormed off. Then my food came out and that was fine. Then I ordered dessert.
Then I saw the waiters milling around by the bikes and another waitress came to my table and said my dessert would be 4 more minutes. It was a little bit busy so I thought nothing of it.
But I couldn't understand why the waiters were milling around the bikes.
Anyway, the end of the meal came and I paid the bill (and left a 15% tip) and as it was dark, just got on my bike and drove away.
I got back, kicked off my shoes outside and jumped in the shower and saw what looked like mud on the side of my foot, cleaned it off and bed to bed.
This morning I went out to my bike and saw that the waiters from last night had actually placed dog crap on my bike where my feet went.
That really makes me feel bad. I wasn't rude. I tip well. But they still did that.
I don't want to believe all the horrible things I hear from expats about Indonesians (and more specifically, the Balinese) but this makes me sad to think that they would do something like this.
