I am an 'expat' who has lived in Bali for 4 years. Prior to that, i lived in Thailand for over 8 years.
How dare you assume that all expats are the same. I certainly dont treat Indonesian people awfully. I have a staff of 200 who I treat fairly, and who i have a mutual respect with. They confide in me, and I treat them well.
I also have two staff in my home. do i need them? possibly not. but do i want them to work for me? absolutely. I have allowed them to improve the way they live, i have supported them for all the time i have been here both financially (by way of salary and other bonuses) and emotionally.
In fact, just this week the baby boy of my maid died. I was at the hospital just after he passed away, and i have been supporting the family emotionally ever since. I spent saturday driving around the place with the dead baby in my car - from the hospital to the home, to the mosque and finally to the cemetery where we laid him to rest.
so dont you dare assume that we ALL treat locals awfully. we dont. you dont live here, and you dont know what people here do for their local staff.
whilst i sympathise with you for having dog poo put on your footpegs for a very stupid reason, i pity you even more for assuming that you can lump all expats in the one basket.
Can i suggest you get your facts right before making such accusations because i am offended by what you stated above.
rant over.
