I have had Dengue twice in last 6 years that was diagnosed possibly other times but did not realise excatly what was wrong.
First of all it HURTS. My legs, hips and back were the worst and felt like extreme gout. The fever was inenste for a couple of days.
I treated the symptoms (fever, pain and dehydration) and bolstered my immune response by taking a short high intensity course of oral steroids.
Ulitmately I went to doctors as I was taking more than 5 days to recover. Both instances they confirmed Dengue by using testing for heamoragic response;
0ne time in Bali they used a blood pressure cuff and pumped it to an extreme level and left it that way for ages and they flicked the back of my hand and loocked for burst blood vessels and used a gauge to determine level of response,
Other time in Malaysia they did similar test but more humanely and then confirmed with pathology.
Both doctors said that they would have done little more than manage the symptoms in a hospital. I would rather take care of myself out of a hospital. Plenty of Pocarri Sweat and the strongest pain killers possible.
