This info might be helpful for Sydneysiders who are considering applying for a 60 day tourist visa. All I can say is do it - the process is very easy and the people at the Indonesian Consulate are lovely.
The visa application can be downloaded off the consulate website. You only need to fill the application out once and bring it along with your passport, one passport photo and airline ticket (a must; no exceptions). The application costs $60 payable by card NOT CASH. There are specific times for visa submissions and collections - check the website before you go. It takes 5 working days for the visa to be issued. Mine is ready for collection next Thursday yipee!
The consulate is easy to find right on the corner of Cooper St and Maroubra Rd in Maroubra. I googled the consulate to see exactly what building I was looking for. Parking is available in Cooper St or along Maroubra Rd. There is a big white security gate out the front and a smaller white gate that is buzzed open by the security guard sitting in his security box to the right of the gate. You have to see him so he can give you a vistor pass and let you through the gate, you just leave your drivers license with him.
Once you have walked through the gate keep walking straight ahead to the automatic doors, go inside and turn left. You will see a smart queue system where you press the option for visa application, a ticket is issued to you with a number on it then you take a seat and wait for your number to be called.
When it is your turn, hand application, passport, photo and airline ticket to the consulate representative. They will look over the application to make sure you have filled it out correctly. If (like me) you haven't attached your photo to the application yet, they will give you a glue stick to attach it. The payment will be taken then you will be asked to take a seat and wait a few minutes for the receipt to be issued. Once you collect the receipt they write on it the day and the time that you return to collect your passport. To get out through the security gate, again you have to wait for the guard to buzz you out, then you hand the vistor pass back and collect your license. Done! I was out in 20 mins!
Sorry the explaination is long but this was the info I couldn't find on the forum for myself :) The extension process for the 30 day VOA sounds like a long process and I don't think I would want to be bothered doing that in Bali.
Now all I have to do is sit back and count down the three and a half weeks until I leave :)
