which bali area to live ?

Hello,
we are 3 couples coming for 2 months (february and march) and with 4 small kids (0 to 7 years old).
None of us has ever been there ... could some of you advice us where to rent a house ? Why not in 2 places, 1 month in each ...
We would love to be in areas close to social life but also not to be into the wild of the crazy tourists and have a feeling of being a part of the local life --- we would love to be close to a paradisiac beach aswell ...
Any recommandations ?
