Been going to Bali for 23 years now and these stories are becoming more and more common. I think with the really cheap fares Pacific Blue and others are offering to the aussie folk Kuta and Legian in particular are becoming areas to avoid staying in because of the crap behaviour of the aussie tourists. It certainly can take the gloss off your holiday if you unlucky enough to have a bunch of yobbos in the room next door.
Best to stay Seminyak or other parts of this wonderful island that are not so frequented by these plonkers
