I'm allergic to sulphur and am wondering what would be the best way to communicate this to restaurant staff in Bali?

In Australia I just say the following: "No preservatives 220-228 (sulphites), onion, shallots or garlic".

I don't need special meals to be prepared for me, just need to know whether or not I should avoid certain menu items (especially the ones containing onion hidden in them).

I thought about getting a card translated but am not sure whether restaurant staff would be able to read or understand it (or even care), plus I don't know whether preservative numbers are the same in Indonesia.

Any advice would be appreciated.
