if you specifically request no onion, garlic etc it is very do-able.
The menu's around the Island have a wide range of food from Indonesian to western to European.
So just ask what is in it if the dish takes your fancy. Then you can make it clear that you have allergies and must not have these ingredients in the meal.
Problem would be that they often use the same knife to cut tomato and then onion and then..... and so on.
