Enjoyed reading yours and now i can't resist swapping stories with you.
On our first trip to Bali we missed the local ferry from Pandang Bai to Nusa Penida so we hired one of those little local boats to take us there for the day.
On the way back to Bali the engine conked out. The boatman put up the sail. Hardly any breeze. So there we were bobbing around in the dark with no lights on our boat, and the boatman was very nervous that a big boat would come along, not see us, and that'd be the end of him and us.
All we could do was help him to bail out water from his boat that seemed not much bigger than a canoe.
After an hour or so he managed to get the engine going again :)
Have caught local bemos around and agree it can be a good experience
