I have just purchased a personal alarm from Tandy's for $9.95, and thought it may be of interest to solo travelers.
It's a keyring that you can attach to your bag and you just pull the top out to attract attention. It's loud as hell, so don't test it out near your ear!! Just a little bit of extra security that I reckon would even scare a cranky dog off! You can also have it by your bed when sleeping...just thought other ladies may be interested.
