technically was in November 2008 I deal with a lot of the local dogs here in Bali, as there may well be some rabid dogs in the villages out off the tourist areas if you are staying in Kuta or the nearby regions you shouldn't have to worry. I personally can't believe the media is still doing the hype on the rabies outbreak here in Bali. If anyone is worried about this situation just try not to encounter any dogs. I personally can assure tourists that dogs along Kuta beach from Hard Rock Hotel down to Bali Gardens Resort are all vaccinated and any pups you may see are obviously not rabid as a rabid dog will die very quickly so the pups would die even faster so they are not a threat. They are generally more scared of people because they have been dumped on the beach and surrounding areas due to the lack of education. Please do not not be worried about coming to Bali just be vigilant and you will have a great time. Most of the dogs here will stay away from tourists because they are very timid and scared. Anyone else that begs to differ good on you and why not scare more people away from our Paradise. Please google rabies and you will know what to look for in a dog if it has rabies.
