The houses are traditional, the crafts are traditional, no vehicles are allowed inside the village. Yes, it is quite touristy, but not as bad as it could be. The traditional crafts are for sale (lontar "books", weavings etc) but there is no pressure to buy, no crass shops or restaurants - those are outside the walls.
Well worth a visit. Combine it with a trip to or stay at Candi Dasa - only about 6Ks away. Sadly, such traditional places are on the wane due to we tourists.
