Novotel is a nice resort on a fantastic white beach. The thing is that to eat anywhere else in the evening you would need transport to be safe. Anywhere else is mainly the village of Kuta (about 20 min walk) which caters for mainly surfers so mainly basic cafes etc. There is a good vegetarian cafe on the hill over looking Kuta - called Astari.
Senggigi has more choice, still is small but the beach is not so flash. Have a look at Gili Trawangan for good food, accomodation, beaches, no traffic and no hawkers.
