Novotel is a beautiful resort. As said if you want to eat out of resort you will need transport you can either rent motorbikes or get transport. Try to arrange transport out of the hotel as the Novotel prices are quite a lot higher. If you are with surfers they will need bikes anyway to get to Gerupuk and the other surf spots.
The resort may cater mostly to surfers but you can still get good food. Puri Rinjani is a favourite place for me to eat out at.
