I have been quiet on this one for almost three years. we were about to stay at a very popular mid range place in Ubud in August 2006 and I read a couple of posts on this forum about loss of money from their room safes. So when we stayed there we "hid" our money instead of using the room safe. In the morning after checking out and now in Tuban we found that we had been ripped for A$900 at the previous place. Weird that they left a A$50 note in the wallet.
It was a mini saga but the short term response from the previous accommodation was to visit us with 3m rp as a gesture from the staff, out of their tips. A longer term view by the hotel was to reimburse us for our loss. I will not name the hotel as that would not be fair, but whether or not to use the room safe is still an interesting question for us.
