We stayed at Apa Kabar in April this year and loved it. The beach is used by the local fishermen and their families...their boats are pulled up onto the beach in front of the hotel and right along the bay, so not really a place to lie. I suppose there's nothing stopping you but there's no lounges set up there.
You can swim and, even better, snorkel. The dive place at the front of the hotel hires out gear. The coral is fantastic and we spent hours out there.
There is a low fence and shrubbery between the beach and the villas and the pool area so you still have a view of the sea.
It's great to walk along the beach and chat to locals and see what they have caught.
