This day, Cham and I decided to check out Discovery Mall. Quite impressive for Bali, and we rejoiced at the site of Starbucks out the front. There is a great 'Rebel' type store on level two. I got cheap Converse shoes ( about half price to OZ) and Sketchers etc. They only sell sports clothing & shoes, but worth checking out. Guess was great too, treated myself to a bag. There are some little market style stalls on this level, where I purchased a Gameboy Advance game cartridge with 256 games on it, for about $25au. They fit the DS aswell. Now, before going, I asked the question about whether this place had a lift, or not. The answers I got, was 'yes' but it was a cargo lift. No problem, one lift is as good as another. So off we happily went, shopping going up each level. Now I can get on esculators going up, but I can't get on them going down. All shopped out, and on the top level (about 4 or 5), we found the lift. Pushed the button, nothing! After waiting awhile, we asked some young guys unpacking some boxes if the lift was broken. They said it wasn't, but it is only turned on twice a day! OMG! Now what???
We walked around for awhile, while I quietly paniced. Then Cham went down a level to the Info both, and sweet-talked a staff member into helping us. He chatted to someone on a walkie-talkie and arranged to have the lift turned on just for us! Lovely man! How embarrassing!
Later that day, we jumped in a taxi, and headed into Denpasar. Our taxi driver decided to make a little extra cash, by taking us on a bit of a wild goose-chase. We looked around Ramayana Shopping centre for while, went all the way to the top, because the esculators looked like they were slower than Discovery, and I thought I could get down them. We bought some cute, cheap jewellry for our girls up there, and a few more DVD's from Softcomp. Went to head down, oops, too fast! Thank goodness for the stairs! But Cham had to help me down, one painful step at a time, to the bottom! Now, I was disappointed this time with Ramayana. The make-up counters had no stock, literally two lipsticks and a daggy looking eye shaddow. The shoe department is good if you have kids, and tiny feet. But the rest was a let down.
Jumped in another taxi, and headed for the famous Gold street in Denpasar. Everybody takes about this place on the forum, and I thought it was worth checking out. Wrong. We walked down the street, checking our each shop. The standard of the jewellry was not very good. It all had a Indian look about it, and the workmanship was not the same as Australian standards. We didn't find anything worth purchasing. Next hard thing was getting a taxi from this area. There only seemed to be local Bemo's around. After waiting on the side of the road, for what seemed like hours, we walked up to a busy road to try our luck there. Eventually, we snagged a taxi, and made our way back to Kuta.
We ate dinner at the chinese resturant out the front of our hotel. The food was okay, but it was very noisy (due to the local band playing) and very smokey. I guess we are all getting used to the no smoking bans in Oz resturants! They did make very good Margaritta's though!
