In a hindu country, it would not be surprising to find a lot of stuff has an "Indian look about it".
The only criticism regarding the craftsmanship that I have is that some of the catches on the chains (anklet, bracelet, necklace) are the "bend to close" type, but these can be cheaply changed to more robust safer types of catch if required.
If buying the heavy (say 40 grams +) chains, the workmanship is every bit as good as anywhere else, except the purity is typically twice that available in the shopping mall "jewellers" in Australia.
Given $500 to spend on gold in either location, I know where I would get the better value!
To get taxis out of Denpasar, simply go back to the shopping centres, as these always have taxis waiting around outside.
