yes you will get ripped off esp if it's your first trip but more than likely you will realize this at the hotel when you are pleased as punch over something you bartered hard for and then you meet someone else that bought the same thing 10000rp cheaper (about $1.10) so don't let it worry you, seems most first timers take 10 or 20 thou rp so seriously but keep it in perspective and you will deal with it better and have a laugh to, you will alway find someone that paid more than you for the same thing.
we always use the kodak shops never had a problem there, anyone offering dream rates is making it up in some way! if you change $100 at a time its easier for you to convert and you would need to worry about rigged calculators.
Most the rest is common sense, I usually carry one of those little pocket calculators so the the GLW is mounting up a pile of thing on the counter of one of her favorite shops its easier to make sure of matching totals or even when out for dinner to double check you bill.
I am sure you will have a great time there once you start to relax and go with the flow.
