Bangkok is a HUGE city with horrendous traffic & bad pollution. Getting around can be a pain but the shopping is fabulous as is the food. I suggest you get a guide book such as Lonely Planet or Rough Guide. Well worth $25 or so.
Thailand is a beautiful country. Don't limit yourself to Bangkok.
