We have been to Bali every year for the past 10 years and decided to go to Phuket this year (just recently arrived home) for our big 50th. Yes...we could have gone to Bali but didn't want the memory of our 50th to drift into just another Bali trip.
Well, apart from getting food poisoned on Day 2 of our holiday we couldn't help comparing the difference between Thailand & Bali. Must admit that clothes seem to be of a better quality , although twice as expensive, and food was certainly more expensive. Bali people are certainly more friendly and it is this friendliness and culture of theirs that keeps on beckoning us back.
You can't compare Bangkok to Bali. Bangkok is really one big city only. It does offer great shopping but the traffic is really horrendous. I must be crazy but I go on holidays to relax and enjoy the culture and not necessarily shop my a**e off!! I think its good to go to Thailand to see the difference. Before we discovered Bali 11 years ago we had visited Thailand a couple of times and really loved it..thought it was going to be our yearly destination until we went to Bali. Say no more. I will say..go and visit Thailand. It is a truly beautiful place but Bali is better....
Its been 15 years since we returned to Patong..wouldn't go again. Most likely try somewhere different next time like Koh Samui or Pattaya, but we know that what remains truest and fondest to our hearts is beautiful Bali.
