I just wanted to bring this up again.. 2 years ago I had a henna tattoo and had a terrible allergic reaction, it got infected and my foot was swollen and red. Went to the Medical Centre where it needed to be scraped off, antiobiotic cream & tablets given and obviously no contact with water. Kind of spoiled my holiday not being able to swim but made most of it.

Now here is the reason for the fresh posting. Two days ago I had a hair rinse done and yesterday (so 1 day later) came up with a terrible reaction all over my scalp, ears, hairline on face and lumps on my neck. Off to the medical centre again for anti allergy tablets which I'm now taking for a few days. This was the first rinse I had for many years - usually get foils which actually don't touch the scalp.

I investigated the henna tattoo's again because I seemed to recall nasty side affects due to something in the mixture they use. It is something called PPD which is only approved for hair dyes but is being mixed with henna to make the tattoo's black. Not only are many people having terrible reactions and scarring, but apparently the person is then hyper sensitive to this ingredient for rest of their life afterwards. That means no hair dyes, and even some sunscreens can be a problem and cosmetics can be a problem.

Now at the risk of ruining the tattoo artists livelyhood, please think very carefully about getting these temp tattoos - particularly for your children!! Or if you can ask them to only use henna but could be difficult to explain that.
