goods that orhpanages require but I don't believe there is an orphanage on this earth that, while struggling for basic resources, has ever needed lollies and trinkets. Supporting the development of self sufficiency and industry has far greater merit and long term benefit than unsuitable handouts. Remember the teach a man to fish story? Compare the Adopta enterprise to irregular gift giving and which would you rather? Which has the greater capacity for restoring people's self esteem and ability to contribute to their community?
I'm not knocking tourists who would like to contribute, I'm just asking that they see where they fit in the longer term and consider how they could really make a difference to the life's of others.
