In 2003 I posted on this forum about my experience visiting the Aik Bukak Children's home in Lombok.
As a direct result of a very generous American man reading that post, he went to Lombok, visited the home, and then set about raising funds to build :
1. a kitchen (previously a brick fireplace on the floor)
2. 5 bathrooms (previously one small cubicle which doubled as toilet and mandi)
3. renovate the girls dormitory (which literally fell down as soon as the builders touched it - a disaster was waiting to happen)
All of which have now been funded (a great deal from his own pocket) and completed
In addition, he established a sponsorship program to provide tertiary education to suitable candidates from the orphanage.
This gentleman has stated on more than one occasion that this would not have happened if he had not read about the children's home on this forum.
Another regular poster here also got involved and raised funds for a playground - previously the kids had nothing.
So may I suggest that you wake up to yourself and think about the bigger picture. Exposure and first hand experiences can be quite powerful. There are plenty of people here who quietly do what they can to assist the Indonesians, but there is nothing wrong with sharing the experience either.
