Day Five
Had a great day. Organized with Johnny from KTH to drive us to the Safari Park. Had heard so much and read so much here on the forum about it, we thought we would check it out for ourselves. Arrived there about 9.45am after only about an hour in the car, cost $28.00 each. We watched the bird and dog show, the dogs were very funny, we fed and rode the elephants, patted the big white tiger, it was so drugged we had to watch its tummy move to see if it was alive. Son held 4 month old baby lion. The person before him was having trouble with the cub, it was becoming quite aggressive, so the trainer we noticed had something in his hand that he waved under the lion's nose and so when it was my sons turn to hold the lion, it was so floppy he could do whatever he wanted with it. The orangutan's were so beautiful, the little one was so cheeky. We spent a long time playing with them. The Safari Bus ride is amazing. They take you through three sections, India, Africa and Indo, and drive very close to the animals, some of our photos are outstanding. So lucky to go to Bali out of school holiday time, because the Park was empty, every where we went and every thing we looked at we were the only people there. We took our bathers (great advise from the forum) had a swim, and ate lunch at "UMA'S". The food was fantastic, and so cheap.
BLT toasted (Yummy)
2 Pad Thai "Gal" (with extra chilli, delicious)
Cheese Burger (the best yet)
4 waters
2 bintangs
2 cokes
Cost $22.00
Had a great day and will probably return in Oct.
The Safari Park was better than i expected. If your thinking about visiting it, all i can say is "Do It". Left there late afternoon and off to Tanah Lot to catch a sunset.
Haven't been to Tanah Lot for around 10 years, must say it will be another 10years before i go again. As you drive through they charge you per-person. Continually hassled by tiny children wanting to sell post cards. We wander down along the beach then up stairs to have a drink and get a front row seat to watch the sunset. Not a cloud in the sky and a nice breeze. Then out of no where came hundreds of clouds and no sunset to see. We had a great day and back in Kuta we settled for a very yummy restaurant opposite the KTH called Basil Leaves. What a find this little place is, the food is magnificent, we ate here last year a few times and have tried many different things on their menu and never been disappointed.
2 bintangs
4 cokes
Tom Yum Soup
2 Serves of Spring Rolls
Chicken and Cashews/steamed rice (just the best)
Mee Goreng
Yellow Beef Curry
Cost $15.50 all up
We laughed at that, 3 adults (son got room service back at KTH) and only cost $15.50.. got to love Bali.
Day Six
Hub and i were up early and went to Kuta Food Markets. I love this place, i buy my peanut sauce and we were lucky enough to run straight into Julie from the beach so we went in with her while she did her food shop for the day, Very interesting. The morning i spent at Matahari's, i love this shop too. Left the men to go do their thing and i pottered buying more shoes, make-up, baby clothes for friends, handbags and lots of other bits and pieces. Spent 4 hours in there. Late lunch back at KTH and a laze around the pool. Off to beach late afternoon, stopped and bought Hub his mighty West Coast Eagles Shirt, paid $10.00 for it. We decided to stay close to home for tea so we went back to Tamin Sari.
Nasi
2 Honey Chilli Chicken
Chicken Satays
Chicken Supreme (i had this, and it was the best meal i ate)
2 cokes
6 cocktails
Cost $36.00
Day Seven
Had a late breaky, wondered to Matahari's to stock up on shampoo. razors. hair wax, band aids, car smelly;s and all that sort of stuff. Nike shop in Kuta Square and son bought some "skins" paid $25.00, we paid $79.00 in Perth. Went to Sukura's to finish off the DVD shopping, well over 100 now, but with 4 kids who are all movie buffs they will eventually get watched. Over the road to the stadium bar, just have to have a drink there and sit and watch the world go by. On the way back we thought we would try Bamboo Cornier which i had read about many a time on here, and oh my we weren't disappointed. Well, the men were in heaven. The Nasi there is the best ever.... and that's saying something considering they have eaten Nasi in every restaurant in Bali.
2 Nasi (Best and Biggest plate full)
BLT
Banana Milkshake (yummy)
2 bintangs
Cost $9.00
The Nasi was less that $1.00
Lazy afternoon in the pool, off to the beach and just around the corner for tea at "Secret Garden" for tea.
2 Spring Rolls
Peppered Steak/mash/vegies and gravy
Pizza
Tenderloin Steak
Mee Goreng
3 cocktails
2 bintangs
2 cokes
Cost $43.00
We all enjoyed our meals. Another thing we love about staying at the KT H's is whats around it. We have our favourite "Tamin Sari, Basil Leaves, Secret Garden, Bagus and now Bamboo Corner, and for my son "Mcdonalds" all within 5-10 minutes walk.
Day Eight
Last day and just a little bit of shopping left to do. We haven't bought anything like we use to, so i don't think we will have a problem with weight. After being here so many times now we are over the shopping bit, plus knowing we are back in Oct which will mean we have been lucky enough to be in Bali three times in a 12 months, i am not that worried about what i don't buy.
Off to a shop called "Sita". Sita sells those tin fish, gecko's, butterflies, lizards etc that you can either hang outside or inside your home. They have thousands of different ideas, turtles, prawns, lamp shades, candle holders oh so much. We bought 3 fish (Dad, Mum and Baby), 2 candle holders, 2 turtles who's shell opens up and you put mossie coils in it, they are about the size of a dinner plate, one butterfly, and one dragon fly.. Cost for all...$43.00. From there we taxied to a Billabong Surf Outlet, it was a little more pricey than the other one we had been to but they had lovely stuff. I got 3 windsheeters, 3 billabong belts and one pair of jeans, cost $127.00. Back down poppies 1 got the boys all some soccer tops/shorts, paid about $5.00 per item. Bamboo Corner for lunch, the men are now totally hooked on this place and had to have their last fix of Nasi.
Late arvo down to the beach for our last drink with Rudy and the girls.
Back for showers and to pack to go to the airport. We had booked a Maxi Cab for 10.00pm.
Clearing out the safety box in the room, Hub looks at our tickets and realizes we had missed our plane and that we were suppose to of gone home at 1.20am that Saturday, not 1.20am Sunday. Holy ******... panic.!! Danny at the KTH rang Qantas and explained the situation. They suggest we all get to the airport as soon as possible, so we through everything in our cases and staff at KTH organized taxi's for us, we cancelled the maxi cab. We were at the airport in a flash. B-i-l had the right ticket, so he was ok, but Hub, Son and I had gone FFlyers. The man we saw was wonderful and laughed when we told him we missed our flight because we had had all our days mixed up. We waited for only about 15 minutes when he returned with the great news he could get us seats on the same flights as B-i-l and could just transfer our fflyers over. The cost was 5,000 points which is standard anywhere when you changed your fflyers reservation. Not only that but with the plane 80% full he gave us 6 seats between the 4 of us, so Son layed down and slept most of the way home. Our luggage was slightly under weight.
Our 8 days in Bali were once again fantastic!!
