remember when (ages ago) when families used to maim and purposely deform their babies at birth so they had a trade begging? I dont recall seeing this form of begging on the streets for many years now. Must not have been a worthwhile career as first thought, or maybe they they woke up to themselves to this cruel practice. I'm sure it probably still exists (I hope not) but I personally have not come across them - would anyone support this career by giving them money? The poor children, they suffer the consequences of dishonest and heartless parents/adults. I dont know the answer, these kids were/are in a no win situation if you dont give money, and future kids are in a similar situation if you do give money.
I wish there was a real effective answer. (The government would definately be able to make a dent, but they dont bother) I know (personally) I will not stay in a Suharto family owned resort or hotel. I bet the average person would be shocked to know how many they own, and how many we travellers stay in and support their decadent lifestyle without knowing. (Not to mention the other businesses they own)If only they gave back to the people........My opinion, shoot me down!
