We did freq. flyers to Darwin then stayed the night across the road at a new hotel, room was self contained, then flew early morning to Bali doing a Garuda package deal with accommodation added. Coming back we went into the Qantas lounge for the long wait between planes, this worked for us as it also broke the trip up and we got to Bali before lunch the following day, but all children are different.
