impartial answer to this question. I like to drive myself around and no longer ever hire a driver. I don't see the problems that the non-Bali drivers see with traffic and road rules and the convenience can't be over estimated. In my experience you get to see more driving yourself than you do with a driver as you are more likely to get off the beaten track rather than that well-worn one that most drivers will take you down. But each to their own and I'm sure the driver-only crowd will argue otherwise. Cost wise it is much cheaper to hire yourself a car than pay for car and driver. Fuel is dirt cheap and, as Bali is only a small island you don't use that much fuel anyway.
