low carb/sugar in bali

Hello - this may sound like a really silly question but its somthing I'm struggling with so any help/advice would be fantastic.

I have two months in Bali but can't eat sugar or alot of carbohydrates due to diabetes - I control my diabetes through low carb/sugar eating but am having trouble trying to find out what is ok for me to eat and what isn't. obviously I can't eat rice or potato's & alot of fruit is out for me too (sad as I love rice) does anyone know how much sugar is in satay sauce? also is it true that the meat is marinated in a sugar based marinade before being cooked? at the moment I am eating eggs and fish and not alot else as I'm not sure what the base is for the sauce in stuff like cap cay. Any help on this would be great as I would love to try more food stuffs.
