I am a type 2 diabetic too, on twice daily insulin. I find that a holiday in BAli does wonders for my health , with the extra exercise of walking and swimming , less stress and healthier diet. Usually I lose at least 4-5 kgs over 10 days ( which doesn't say much for my usual diet ! )
Here's a few extra things which I have found to add to the great advice below
- heat affects me a lot, especially if I am walking , shopping or scurrying around. Now I plan frequent breaks, try to stay out of direct sun , carry water , wear comfy shoes and clothes etc . Stop and sit down if you feel faint and have a cold drink, don't over plan outings , don't stress about anything if possible
I eat all foods within reason , but watch the fruit - tempting but full of sugar - and this includes smoothies and OJ etc. Stick mainly to water and diet coke . Rice is no problem for me , whatever the type, and seems to have little effect . Mainly the food is comparitively plain and healthy , and with the heat I don't feel like eating as much as usual anyway . My sugar level is likely to be on the low side rather than too high , so I always carry a little bar of chocolate just in case
I'm sure you will be fine, remember to test regularly in case of hypos but for me the extra exercise , heat and better eating are all positives . If only I could stick to it the rest of the year :-)
