Just as a matter of interest was it only "departure tax" you didnt get a refund on or was it the rest of the "taxes" that are charged these days? as the"taxes" we get charged up are partly fuel surcharges,security levies etc.Personally i doubt that the government ever received the "departure tax" component as I would imagine the airlines would pay this to the government in arrears(only after you have left the country)the same way that gst is charged by retailers etc at point of sale but only physically paid later.
