My suggestion is to leave the shopping until the end of your trip. In other words take a backpack only, so that your travel plans aren't limited to car travel and hotel accommodation. You might see a homestay in the middle of a rice field you'd like to stay in, or want to travel to a place by scooter one day.
Plan to stay in a heavily touristed area for your few days in Bali, shop 'til you drop, and buy a cheap suitcase at the same time.
Lots of forumites - not me, haven't a clue- can tell you where to buy a suitcase and how much.
