Darwinites - advice pls

I've changed my return date to Perth from Bali and consequently I have time to kill in Darwin - from 4.30 am (shudder) until my flight leaves after 3 pm.

never been to Darwin so I'm hoping to see more of it than just the Airport - any suggestions? Is the Airport close to the city?
