a couple of years ago our flight was delayed from Perth (for 18 hours)due to fly out 10am then 1pm. When that didn't look like happening we were taken to Ibis hotel in the city. Vouchers given for breakfast lunch and dinner and the use of a hotel room till departure. When it looked as though we were going to be delayed even further one of the other travellers contacted Channel 7. A representative from the airline came to the airport around midnight and was told if we weren't out of the hotel and aboard the plane by 7am channel 7 would be there.. Don't know what they could've done..anyway.. We were picked up from the hotel and transported to the airport around 2.30am and in the air by 5am. When we were re checked in at the airport all passengers were given a letter giving us $150 refund which had to be sent off on return.. Yes I did get mine. Like I said We were extremely lucky and a very well bonded group by the time we eventually took off for Bali.
At the same time a flight from Sydney was delayed for (from memory) 36 hours they were given the same deal except were offered free return flights. These were also honoured.
Seems that Garuda should be looking after their passengers like this.
